Introduction and Prologue by ~AliKatFin:iconAliKatFin:

Introduction

This story was sort of written by accident. My boyfriend and I read books together, and I got an idea of a story that could mix characters and plots between a bunch of them. I started writing it sort of as a joke, but before I knew it it had turned into a project, and ended up being over 100 pages. It’s by far the longest thing I’ve ever written, and it’s even got me thinking of writing a novel, so I’m pretty happy about it. This story combines the worlds of several different series of books, as well as one TV show. The main story is Harry Potter’s, though, and takes place just after the end of the sixth book. I actually wrote this before the seventh book came out, so it’s completely disregarded. This story ends Harry’s saga, so you could say it’s a substitute for the seventh book. The story can probably be understood by anyone who has read at least the first six books of the Harry Potter (with the help of the appendix), but the more “universes” you’re familiar with, the more you’ll enjoy it, I think. Here is the list of “universes” that collide in this story:

Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (Books 1-6)

Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan

Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony (On a Pale Horse, etc.)

His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass)

Redwall series by Brian Jacques (Mattimeo, The Bellmaker)

The Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede (Dealing With Dragons, Searching For Dragons, Calling On Dragons, Talking to Dragons)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series created by Joss Whedon

1 secret series (just a couple cameos from one series of books that don’t need to be read to understand- it’ll be fun to see if anyone catches them)

Like I said, this story takes place after the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It takes place at no particular time in the Wheel of Time universe, but definitely in the later books. As for all the rest of the universes, this story takes place after the end of the series. The Appendices explain more about each universe, and also define all characters, places, and terms from each universe. I hope I got everything. In Appendix A, all the terms (characters, places, etc.) are listed in the order they appear in the story. This is probably best for people who are unfamiliar with most of the stories, so they can follow along as go (although, if you haven’t read at least up to book 6 of Harry Potter, you probably shouldn’t bother). In Appendix B would be better for people who are familiar with a few of the stories and just need it for reference. The terms are sorted by “universe.” Within each category, they are still in the order they appear in the story, because that’s the order I wrote them in.
So, I hope at least a few people will take the time to read this, because I spent a lot of time writing it :) I hope a few people are familiar with most of these universes too, so they can enjoy the story to its fullest. Remember that I started writing it as a joke, so try not to take it too seriously- because so many characters are involved, there are also a lot of good characters that didn’t make it in. And forgive me if it is a little confusing or abrupt- I had originally wrote it just for me and my boyfriend to read, so I wrote it assuming the reader knows the characters. But like I said, I think anyone who's at least read through book 6 of Harry Potter can get through it. So, without further ado, here is the prologue of my story, which is simply titled “Story.” Any comments will be appreciated!

*EDIT: Yikes, after looking over it a little bit, I also want to apologize for the formatting. I originally wrote it as a Word document, then had to save it as text in order to upload it, and it seems to have a mind of its own as far as accepting formatting. Sometimes the paragraph indentations are there, and sometimes they're not. So don't mind the wacky formatting :p

Story

Prologue

Moiraine Damodred sat at her tidy little writing desk in her apartments in the Royal Palace of Andor. Her elbows on the desk, she sat with her head bowed, massaging her temples. The headaches were coming less frequently now, and they were not as painful as when she first returned, but she was exhausted as well. She still frequently had trouble sleeping.
Moiraine opened her eyes and saw the light from the candle on her desk flicker over the papers she had been reading. She gave a wry chuckle. I can’t blame this headache on Lanfear; not when I’m trying to read in this light. She rose from the desk, deciding to wait until daylight to continue her work. She had taken two steps when there was a quiet knock at the door. Moiraine sighed, wondering whom it could be at this hour. She thought perhaps it was the strange man who had saved her life beyond the portal, whom she had repaid by bringing him with her out of that world of chaos and into this one. She had not seen much of him since they had arrived, which did not surprise her. While he was much safer in this world than in the hell where she had met him, this was obviously not the world to which he belonged. She shook herself, ridding her mind of the images of violence and pain she had witnessed on the other side of the portal, and she opened the door.
A Maiden of the Spear, in the gray-brown cadin’sor of the Aiel warriors, gave Moiraine a respectful nod of the head.
“Moiraine Sedai, the car’a’carn requests your presence in the formal sitting room, if you are not yet asleep.”
“Has something happened?”
“I do not know. The alantin Elder Haman has arrived.”
Moiraine raised her eyebrows. An Ogier elder arriving in the middle of the night and requesting an immediate audience was very unusual. She asked no more questions, just nodded to the Maiden and began walking toward the sitting room.
When she arrived, she found Rand, Min, the Ogier Elder, and Thom Merrilin waiting for her.
“I thought you’d be awake” said Thom softly.
Moiraine wordlessly returned his gaze for a moment, then looked from the Ogier to Rand and asked, “What has happened?”
When Rand replied, he sounded unsure. ”Elder Haman has come to inform us of a situation that has arisen. I think it might make more sense to you than it does to me.”
Moiraine sat down and looked expectantly at the Ogier.
“Ogier, as you probably know, are closer to nature than humans, even Aes Sedai,” Elder Haman began, “and we have begun to sense a strange phenomenon recently. I’m afraid something is gravely wrong.”
Moiraine’s eyes widened involuntarily as she listened to the Ogier’s explanation.

Buffy shook her head in her sleep as, in her dreams, she chased a shadow moving ahead of her. She knew the shadow was evil, knew it had to be stopped. She couldn’t tell if it was a person or not, but she knew she had to kill it. Suddenly she heard cloth ripping loudly. She stopped to see if her clothes were torn, but she couldn’t find the source of the sound. When she looked up again, she was in her bedroom in her old house in Sunnydale. She stood still for a moment, and then heard the ripping noise again, coming from the master bedroom. She walked down the hallway and turned the corner to see her mother standing in the room.
“Mom?” Buffy walked slowly into the room, “What are you doing?”
The curtains and sheets were tearing, long gashes appearing from nowhere. Buffy’s mother was desperately trying to hold them together, to fix them, saying, “It’ll be ruined, it’ll be ruined” over and over. Buffy rushed forward, but stopped again when she saw the blood on her mother’s hands. Where had it come from? She looked up and saw the shadow she had been chasing standing behind her mother. She still could not make out any features clearly but she felt a shiver as it laughed a high, cold laugh. As she started to dash toward it the dream suddenly fell away and she awoke with a start, in her own bed in her house just outside of London.
Buffy took a deep breath and lay in her bed for several minutes. Looking out the window, she saw it was still pitch dark outside. Finally she resigned herself to the fact that she was not going to get any more sleep tonight, and got out of bed. She walked down the hall, and headed downstairs. She saw the light on in the kitchen, though she was sure she had turned it off. She walked in to find Willow sitting at her kitchen table.
“Hey,” said Buffy, “What are you doing here?”
“Sorry, I just couldn’t stand being at my place any more.”
“Don’t worry about it. More problems with Kennedy?”
Willow nodded. “Let me tell you, moving in with her- not the best idea.”
Buffy smiled sympathetically. “Yeah, I kinda thought so.”
      “And you didn’t say anything?”
“Hey, who am I to be giving people relationship advice?”
      “Good point,” agreed Willow.
“What’s on the stove?” asked Buffy.
“Oh, hot cocoa, you want some?”
“Sure,” Buffy said. “It’s never too late for chocolaty goodness, that’s what I always say.”
Willow smiled and poured Buffy a cup of cocoa. “So, why are you up?”
      “Can’t sleep,” Buffy replied.
As Willow sat down again, she said, “Me either. And Kennedy’s not the only reason. There’s something weird going on. I thought maybe I was the only one who could feel it, but I talked to the coven today, and they feel it too.”
“Feel what?” asked Buffy, thinking of the evil shadow from her dream.
“The earth- well, not the earth exactly, but the world. Whatever holds the world together. It feels like its-“
      “Ripping?” asked Buffy.
      “Yeah! And-“
They both turned to look at the front door as someone pounded on it from the outside.
“Is there a party at my house that I wasn’t invited to?” Buffy muttered as she walked to the door. She opened it and stared openmouthed at Giles, Xander, Angel, and Spike.
“We have a problem,” said Giles, “Can we come in?”

Mendanbar walked through the forest in the moonlight, keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. Well, he thought, out of the ordinary for the Enchanted Forest anyway. He had felt some strange vibrations in the magic of the forest all that day, and he could not figure out what was different. For the tenth time that day, he closed his eyes and allowed himself to feel the threads of magic that criss-crossed through the forest. He felt the strangeness again, like a shallow cut in the threads that didn’t belong there. He took hold of the threads, and the forest melted away around him, then solidified again, and he was in the place where the threads were disrupted. Again, Mendanbar walked around the spot, looking hard, and again he found nothing. He sighed, exasperated, and grabbed a thread to transport him to the castle. Cimorene would be getting worried. I’ll ask Telemain to look at it tomorrow, thought Mendanbar as he entered his bedroom. Cimorene was already asleep. He dressed for bed and lay down next to Cimorene, thinking for a long while before finally drifting off to sleep.
